Forum: GratefulDead Subject: Longest Morning Dew?

I believe the longest morning dew ever played is from New Years 76/77. 12/31/76. It clocks in at 14:55, I know of a few that break the 14 minute mark. But none that go over 15. Is this the longest dew? Would love to hear one that is longer, even if it sucks.

BTW, this dew is a classic with no other dew like it.

ahh yes. A great dew right there for sure. On dick's picks 14. I actually recently missed DSO perform 12-02-73 a few months back. I've been kicking myself since. I've just recently got off a binge from that morning dew.

Wow... listening right now... Phil is an absolute beast leading the jam melodically with unpredictable lines that somehow avoid stepping on any toes. Counterpoint between Jerry and Phil is stunningly beautiful. Final jam doesn't quite reach the same epic proportions but is beautiful in its own right...

Ah, its nice to come back to such gems after a GD hiatus.

Nice pick, Rich.

That Dew is only about eleven minutes long, but it's a nice rendition and one of the very last ever performed during a first set. Some nice guitar work by Weir during the China/Rider segue as well.

I'd go with the newer Miller remaster...

Well I just finished listening to 12/31/76 and it was nice indeed. Been a long time since I gave that one a listen. Now on to 2/23/71. The recent Miller upgrade is superb, but now I need to REALLY listen to what's going on......

Technically, it's not a remaster. It's from a completely different set of reels. I think it may be from a different mix too, but good call on the source :-)

That's easy: the Dew on my brother's E72 album had a "stick" and it would go "I thought I heard a baaaa---baaa---baaa---baaa..." ad infinitum (or until the needle or record gave out, I suppose.)

Funny how that gets burned in your brain. Now, if I hear a similar Dew, my brain inserts the hiccup. I have the same issues with "Everybody wants Kung Fu fighting---ighting---ighting---SMACK---them cats were fast as lightning..."

And, the 8-track's program-change "thump" right in the middle of Foghat's "Drivin' Wheel".

TOOTMO

Not the longest but still the coolest DEW intro:
